Introduction - Who am I
Welcome
to my first post. My name is Mollie, I’m 21 and I'm a college student currently
studying the Bachelor of Business (honours) degree in South East Technological
University. This is a four year course where in our third year we had to decide
on our specialised stream. The options include economics and finance, human
resource management, management, marketing, and accounting. I chose the
accountancy stream, which is ironic seeing as I absolutely despised it for the
leaving certificate. However, I did love business and maths.
For
the flexible semester we got the choice of doing either work placement,
international placement, educational placement (I wouldn’t do it even if you
paid me) or the start-up lab. From January to the end of July of this year, I
worked in an accountancy firm in Wexford called Asple & Co. I really
enjoyed my experience with the firm. It gave me an insight into the accounting
world, I learned new skills and I met new people. I got offered a contract to
return once I graduate and I’m looking forward to doing so. I will be doing the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams once I leave
college to further my qualifications, with the help of exemptions awarded from
my course.
After
learning about the digital economy, I reflected on the various systems I used
throughout my time in Asple & Co. I was introduced to many systems used by
the company in their daily operations. Two that were used on a daily basis were
Virtual Cabinet (VC) and CCH Central. VC was used to store, manage, and send word
files, excel files and other important documents through technology. Client
files and workings were scanned and uploaded to VC to contribute to achieving the
goal of being a paperless office. CCH Central allowed client’s information to
be easily accessed and timesheets to be completed each week.
I hope
you enjoyed this post and getting to know a bit about me. In my second post I
will be discussing Ireland as a digital economy.
Until next week!
Good blog!
